What happens if you lose your cell phone?

5 sure fire ways to help you protect your data

blackberry enterprise server expressEveryone has cell phones today and as a result we are storing more phone numbers and remembering them less of them.  So what happens when you cell phone is broke or you leave it in a restaurant at some distant airport.   Do you have your contacts backed up?
We have had ITech customers that recently ran into this problem and we have come up with a list of 5 sure fire ways to help you protect your data.

  • If you have a Smartphone that uses Windows Mobile, use ActiveSync to sync your contacts to your desktop.  This usually means that your Outlook contacts will be the same as your phone contacts.  Easy and Simple

  • If you have a Blackberry you have a couple of different options depending on whether or not your company has the BES or BlackBerry Enterprise Server.    If your company has BES then your contacts will be backed up automatically – if not then you will need to use the Blackberry Desktop software to perform the backup.    If you are interested in seeing how your company can benefit from using Blackberry Enterprise Software you can get more information at http://pics-itech.com/blackberry-server-express.html or contact our sales team at 1-888-767-2667

  • If you are an IPhone user – you can use iTunes to sync your contacts.  Depending on whether you are a Mac or Windows user will determine what email application your contact sync into

  • If your Carrier provides a On-Air backup service, sign up for it and use it.  Verizon Wireless now offers its Backup Assist service free with your wireless service.  You can sign up at https://wbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/nos/ba_nab/overview_def.jsp and have your contacts backed up automatically.  AT&T offers its Mobile Backup service at http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/ringtones-downloads/mobile-address-book.jsp

Take periodic backups of your contact folder on your desktop.   Since most Smartphone’s use the email contacts folder as the repository for your cell phone contacts a corrupted contacts folder will corrupt both your desktop and your cell phone.    If you’re not backing up your Desktop have a look at our ITech Remote Backup Service for Windows, Mac and Linux.
